Human Appeal, a leading UK charity, has launched a new initiative aimed at alleviating the financial strain many families are facing in the current cost-of-living crisis. The charity has partnered with Bag2Charity to roll out the Door2Door campaign, which will provide warm clothing to communities in need across 20 cities nationwide. The campaign will run until July 2025, with a call to action for the public to donate unwanted, all-season clothing.

According to data from Statista, nearly half of UK households (49%) reported an increase in their cost of living in September 2024, a situation exacerbated by inflation. While inflation rates have slowed, many families still find themselves struggling financially. Clothing, which typically costs the average household £920 annually, has become an unaffordable luxury for many, especially as inflation continues to impact household budgets.

Human Appeal’s collaboration with Bag2Charity is designed to ease the financial burden on families by providing access to free clothing. Items collected during the campaign will be distributed through a network of UK shelters, charity shops, refuges, and other partner organisations. The initiative will run for two years, ensuring that those who need clothing assistance can access it throughout the colder months and beyond.

Bag2Charity, which facilitates clothing collections from schools, will also donate a portion of the proceeds raised by each kilo of donated items back to Human Appeal, supporting future charitable projects. Schools interested in participating can book a collection via the Bag2Charity website.

The cities participating in the campaign include St Albans, Bradford, Cambridge, Derby, Durham, Doncaster, Huddersfield, Ripon, Lincoln, Leeds, Manchester, Salford, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Sheffield, Sunderland, Wakefield, and York.

Zaheer Khan, Director of Fundraising at Human Appeal, commented on the importance of this campaign: “Wrap Up is one of our biggest campaigns of the year. With rising poverty rates in the UK, we’ve decided to extend the campaign through summer to support those in need for as long as possible. We’re grateful to Bag2Charity for helping us collect, store, and distribute donations. We ask anyone with unwanted clothing to consider donating it to a worthy cause.”

Jaye Onions, Integrated Communications Coordinator at Bag2Charity, echoed the sentiment, saying: “Our goal is to make it easier for people to donate and do good. This partnership with Human Appeal gives everyone an opportunity to declutter their homes and help those who need it most. We’re thrilled to support a charity that shares our values, and we hope the public will come together to support their communities.”

The Door2Door campaign offers an easy and convenient way for people to donate clothing. Those wishing to take part can arrange a collection by visiting the Bag2Charity website. This initiative aims not only to provide essential clothing but also to encourage a sense of community solidarity during challenging times.

As UK families continue to navigate the financial challenges of the cost-of-living crisis, this partnership provides a much-needed lifeline, ensuring that those most in need will have access to basic necessities such as warm clothing.
