The British Government has announced the recipients of the 2025 Marshall Scholarships, with 36 students selected for their exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and potential to foster closer ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. The scholarships are a mark of distinction, granted to those who demonstrate outstanding promise in their respective fields and contribute to the strengthening of transatlantic relations.

Established by the British Parliament in 1953, the Marshall Scholarship programme was created as a tribute to the United States for its role in the Marshall Plan, which helped to rebuild Europe after the Second World War. The scholarship is funded by the British Government, with additional support from a range of leading British academic institutions, the Association of Marshall Scholars, and other foundations.

The Marshall Scholarships allow recipients to pursue graduate study in any academic discipline at universities across the United Kingdom. Scholars contribute to a vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas, promoting cross-cultural understanding and intellectual collaboration between the U.S. and the U.K. This year’s recipients represent a wide range of academic fields, from science and engineering to the arts and humanities.

The full list of the 2025 Marshall Scholars includes students from some of the top universities in the United States, such as Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, and the University of California, Berkeley. Among the recipients is Travis Chai Andrade from Princeton University, Kaylan Ahn from Northwestern University, and Hallie Baker from Boston University. Other notable recipients include Sarah Konrad from Duke University, Emily Springer from CUNY Hunter College, and Tej Patel from the University of Pennsylvania.

The scholars were selected based on their academic excellence, leadership abilities, and ambassadorial potential. The Marshall Scholarship aims to develop future leaders who will play an influential role in strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and the U.K., as well as promoting a deeper understanding of each other’s cultures.

Dr. Jonathan W. Marks, Chair of the Association of Marshall Scholars, praised the new cohort, stating, “These outstanding individuals represent the best and brightest of their generation, and we are excited to support them as they embark on their academic journeys in the United Kingdom. We have no doubt that they will continue to excel and contribute to the U.S.-U.K. relationship in meaningful ways.”

The 2025 Marshall Scholars will join a distinguished group of alumni who have gone on to make significant contributions in fields ranging from government and business to academia and the arts. Their studies will take place at some of the U.K.’s most prestigious universities, including the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London.

As the programme continues to evolve, the Marshall Scholarships remain a key driver of educational and cultural exchange, helping to build strong, enduring links between the two nations.
