Erewash Musical Society, a prominent name in amateur theatre within the Derby and Nottingham areas, has announced its eagerly anticipated production of the celebrated musical Evita. The society, known for its ambitious productions, will bring the legendary story of Eva Perón to the stage from the 4th to the 8th of March 2025 at The Duchess Theatre in Long Eaton.

The musical, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, follows the fascinating life of Eva Perón, Argentina’s former First Lady. Rising from a modest background, Perón gained international attention for her beauty, charisma, and profound influence on Argentine politics. Through her determined ascent, she became a beloved, if controversial, figure to millions.

Erewash’s Evita promises an immersive experience, with standout songs like Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, and Oh What a Circus, evoking the political and emotional complexities of Perón’s life.

Leading the cast is Emma Barnes-Marriott, who takes on the demanding role of Eva Perón. Barnes-Marriott, well-regarded within the local theatre scene, is expected to bring depth and intensity to the portrayal of the iconic First Lady. Opposite her, Martin Briggs will play Juan Perón, while Martin Lewis stars as Che, the omnipresent narrator and commentator within the story. Supporting roles include Jonny Cox-Gray as Magaldi, the tango singer who first helps Eva on her journey, and Emma Kerry as The Mistress, whose poignant solo Another Suitcase in Another Hall has become one of the show’s most memorable moments.

Directing the production is a team of seasoned theatre veterans, Kim Sparks and Beth Yearsley, who will co-lead the show. Musical direction is in the hands of James Bowden, whose experience promises to capture the energy and poignancy of Lloyd Webber’s score. Choreography is directed by Laurie Trott, who aims to capture both the elegance and urgency of Eva’s rise in Argentine society.

Barbara Edwards, chair of Erewash Musical Society, commented on the production: “This will be a unique staging of Evita, and our cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring authenticity and passion to this production. We’re especially proud to have such a talented team from the local area, and we believe audiences will feel both inspired and moved by Eva’s story.”

The production will offer evening performances starting at 7:30 pm, with an additional Saturday matinée at 2:30 pm. Tickets are expected to sell quickly, given both the popularity of the musical and the society’s strong local following.

Audiences can expect an evening of gripping performances, striking visuals, and classic music, all celebrating the rise and impact of Eva Perón. Tickets are available now at via Ticketsource or by visiting The Duchess Theatre box office.
